Counter Punching/Defense Drills

I’d like to start posting some videos of drills to work through. I find what I need drills for most is defense – the heavy bag and shadow boxing works out punch technique but to really work on defense you need a partner and to be efficient you need a structured drill.

The most basic drill would be catching a left jab with a right block and throwing a left jab in return – or slipping to the outside of a left jab and throwing a right in response. For a good overview of the technique see the excellent boxing videos featuring a young David Lemiuex – particularly Countering the Jab.

For a more complex drill defending against a 1-2-3 combo I like the following drill – be sure to watch to the end:
